Star Anise

About: Despite Star Anise's sweet flavoring, it is typically used whole to flavor savory dishes then discarded before serving. It pairs wonderfully with ginger, cinnamon & scallions in broth.

Star Anise can be ground to use in place of ground anise seed (or anise), just use 1/2 the amount. It is recommended to grind it fresh because it loses its flavor quickly.

Taste and Aroma: Sweet, licorice, peppery flavor.

Uses: Soup, stews, pho, broths & tea.
